Case studies for film poster and film review

The second film poster is 'Just My Luck' which is a romantic comedy film which has both inspired and influence my own short film, this movie shows the lives of two people one with good luck and one with bad luck. From this momovieoster we can see that it's about luck because of the tag line "good luck charm. Bad luck magnet." which describes each image perfectly, i would like to have a similar tag line for my movie as it is also a comedic movie which based on the idea of good luck and bad luck. The title of the movie is very straightforward and immediately informs the audience what the film is going to be about.

An idea I had was to combine these two film posters together; silver linings and Just My Luck. From just my luck we could show link it to our short film by portraying the bad luck on one side of the page and good luck on the other side of the page, for that we could take one picture at the location we filmed for the bad luck side, and for the good side luck we could take pictures in the studio to make it seem more happy. Also she could be wearing a different outfit and have a different look, in terms of looking tidy in the good luck side and one the bad luck side she could look rough. Also taking an idea from Silver Linings I think that we could have one side of the picture in black and white and a close up and on the other side of the picture have a medium close up of them in colour.

The first film poster is American Beauty, the picture shows a female's stomach area and her hand underneath her belly button holding a red rose. The red rose connotes love and suggest that the genre of this movie is a romantic or drama movie. The title of the movie and the actors' names are placed at the top and the credits are at the bottom right corner. The tag line of the movie poster is 'look closer' this grabs the audience's attention as it makes them thinking more about what the film is about. Also the skin looks like it's of a young lady  and the colour red can connote sexuality or lust, therefore the audience can expect some romance thus you can tell just by looking at this poster that the target audience is probably aimed at adults as the film explore adult themes.

Another idea I have is to use 2 elements from these two posters. From the Charlie ST. Cloud poster we could us the protagonist looking away, which we could film outside on our location and have her laying on grass and in the bottom half, we could have a hand holding an envelope rather than a rose in American Beauty. Also because the rose is red we could use the red cherry that we put on top the envelope in our short film and make it stand out against the black background.

Film Review case studies:

A typical feature of a magazine film review page has three or four columns, in terms of text,  and usually has a pull quote, and has an out of 5 star rating to suggest the quality of the movie.  A graph is also sometimes used to measure the interest of the film. In a box underneath the title there is a box which tells you key information about the movie for example: release date, certificate, director, cast, screen writer, running time and a plot summary.  There is also an image (which is a screen shot, a still from the movie) used which covers half of the page and underneath it they use tag lines/strap lines followed by the title of the film underneath the strap line.
